Bill and I were good friends at Hillcrest. I was his employee at Speedy Chick #3. I was a part time delivery driver. Bill had a fake ID to buy beer. He went in to buy beer at a 7-11. Bill forgot his fake ID. He gave the clerk his real ID. The clerk said are you old enough to buy beer, Bill said of course and gave the clerk his made up birth date. Told the clerk to check his birth date again. That 7-11 clerk handed Bill the beer. Bill was quick thinker and a great faker. He ran around with Delores Malberti who was from Cuba. She dropped out of Hilcrest. Later, Bill and I became friends on Facebook. Bill was very proud of his wife. He bragged about her on Fcaebook. We lost contact about 10 years ago. I often wonder why? I have to assume his wife's death had something to do with it. My wife, Linda, died in 2020 after a 30 year marriage. That also affected me.

The only thing that has changed for me is now I'm a widower after a 30 year marriage to my wife Linda. A Covid related heart attack last year took her life last year. She had a couple of procedures in the doctor's clinic previously to get better blood flow in her legs. The last one involved the femoral artery so that had to be done in the hospital. The operation was deemed a complete success. The hospital provides there own nurse. That nurse sits at the head of the bed to monitor the vital signs. That nurse had just come back from a vacation in Italy. She got infected with Covid-19 in Italy but didn't know it. She gave Covid to my wife but nobody knew it. The nurse tested positive for Covid the next week, but it was too late for my wife. The morning after they released my wife, she woke up early the next morning and said she was having difficulty breathing. I grabbed some oxygen and put it on her nose, but it was too late. I know she passed with her arms around my neck, but I called 9-1-1 and began pumping her chest until the Fire Medics took over from me. ....
I have been vaccinated. Check with me at the end of April. I may move out of the country, or maybe back to Texas!
Like many of you, I knew Jake from Preston Hollow thru Hillcrest. Jake certainly had a lighter side to him. He could be commical and funny. Above all, I remember Jake as a 'true warrior'. I don't think Jake ever gave up. That the memory I will keep of Jake. I'm also sure a lot of us have memory of Jake we hold on too. Jake was just somebody you never forgot.

I was thinking of Halloween past since Halloween was a few days ago. One that sticks out in my mind goes back to the 3 or 4 grade at Preston Hollow Annex. One, or several of the mom's, decided to put on a haunted house where they blind folded the kids and let them through a house and made them stick their hands in Jell-o and beams and called it 'other things'. It started at the front door and ended in the garage. It's was at Lee Simpson, Michael John Reeves, or Skipper Radke house or a combination of several.
I also remember trick or treating in the apartments a few blocks away. It was easier to get more candy in the apartments, which had 4 apartments behind every door, than go house to house. Some new, more expensive apartments were being built across Turtle Creek. I always ended the night over there. That's where I met Mary Martin (of Peter Pan fame). She would always invite us in for a chat. One time she was on the phone with her son. The next Halloween, of course I went back. Mary Martin asked if we remember the prior Halloween she was talking with her son. I said yes. She said this time her son was there for Halloween and he's in the living room and wants to meet you. Larry Hagman was on the couch and stood up and said "Hi kids".
Those were some of my fondest memories of Halloween.

Very sorry to hear of Judy's passing. She was a sweetheart. I never heard Judy say a unkind word to anyone in school. RIP Judy knowing you are remembered as one of the good people in life.
